handful of these magnificent horses here on earth. There are less than 2500 of these horses left in the entire world, and only 150 in The United States !! They have been on the Endangered Breed List for some time now. The odds are most of you will never see one of these incredible horses ever again !! The Hackeny Horse is known for its unmatchable style in the show ring, yet these beautiful animals were originally developed as a high performance driving and riding horse. The first Hackney's were bred in the 1700's in England to be able to trot long distances with style. If coach horses were the minivans and stationwagons of yesteryear it is certainly fair to say that Hackney Horses were the BMW's and Porsche's of the horse world - the ultimate driving machines. The hallmark of this breed is its 'action' spectacular and highly distinctive. The high action of the Hackney is different from that of other breeds. It throws its legs foward as well as up and down and there is a slight pause of the foot, which gives the appearance of flying over the ground. Their ability as a jumper has been known for many years as well . A Hackney horse in 1910 named 'Confidence' jumped an astonashing 8 feet 2 inches !! There are not many present day jumpers capable of clearing such unbelieveable heights. The ability and scope of theses horses is a sight to behold. Most people are familiar with the Hackney Pony a breed developed from the Hackney Horse, having many of the same atributes except for being pony sized. Hackney's have been called the 'Aristocrat of the Show Ring' "Marky" has been a champion in hand as well as under saddle and he is sired by the most winningest Hackney in the history of the breed, IMP Suddie Marksman. 'Marky' himself has sired many champions , both purebred hackney's as well as 1/2 arabians. "Marky" is an Arabian Breeders Sweepstakes Nominated sire, which makes his 1/2 arabian foals able to win their share of over 4 million dollars in annual Sweepstakes money !!
